Lately, I’ve realized that not all inspiration posts need to be clean and tidy and all based on a theme. Neither does life. As many of you know, when I’m not blogging about knitting or DIY, I am a librarian. It might come as no surprise that I like things that make sense. I like rules. I like order.
Easy No Slip Hangers
I have a couple of dresses I really love, but they’re always falling off their hangers. And like a lot of knitters & crocheters, I also have a LOT of scrap yarn laying around. With scrap sock yarn in particular, it can be hard to find a good use for the leftovers. Two problems? One solution – a simple crocheted band of yarn for my slippery dresses to latch on to. Plus, this DIY hack takes about 10 total minutes. Win, win, win!
Weekly Reader + Pillows to Perk Up Your Place!
I think pillows might be what DIY was invented for – they’re just so expensive at the store! Not only that, they can be homemade in a variety of ways by any level of DIYer. For real, if you only ever do one DIY, it should be a throw pillow or cushion or two to really make your place yours. Check out 10 of my recent favorite pillowy projects from the crafty blog world.
Knit Along Day 5: The Toe!
We’re in the home stretch, knitters!! Today I’m going to show you all how to do a toe decrease, which, surpriii-iiise!, is way easier that the parts of sock knitting you’ve already mastered. Aren’t you excited?
Weekly Reader
It’s been a full year of the Weekly Reader format we’ve come to know and love, so I’m thinking it’s time for a change. Instead of sharing random faves of the week every Friday, I think I’ll start sharing themed roundups that feature amazing projects from a little more than the past week. But! I’ll still share items that are fresh, focusing on the most recent month or two. Pinky swear!
Knit Along Day 4: The Gusset
This is a gusset. While is has one of the weirdest names in knitting, the gusset isn’t all that weird. Gussets actually appear in other parts of clothing to help make them fit over the many curves of the human body. In socks, the shape being addressed is just the part of the foot that gradually narrows from where your ankle meets your foot to the size it should be to fit your arch.
Weekly Reader
This week, blogs have been full of awesome Mother’s Day, May Day, floral and Cinco de Mayo ideas, which has been fun to see. Even though I’m not wild about the fact that it’s already May (I really don’t understand how 2014 is nearly half gone!), I’m really enjoying all of the great ideas people have been sharing online.
The Ultimate Mother’s Day Gift Basket
What woman doesn’t love wine, chocolate, and a good book? When I found out I’d be teaming up with Dove® to design a Mother’s Day gift, I immediately texted my mom to get her input. She literally had their dark chocolate almond Promises in her purse when I texted. “That’s the good stuff!!” was her initial reaction. :) According to my mom, this chocolate goes great with red wine, so I figured I better listen to my mom and make a mother’s day gift the woman REALLY wants!
Get in on the action – The Reader Gallery!
A few months ago I realized I was seeing more and more of your lovely takes on DIYs from Hands Occupied, so I decided to set up a gallery page to showcase them all! And then I realized I should probably tell you all about it in a post so everyone knows it exists! Shame on me for not thinking of posting about it sooner. :)
