I’m very excited to announce that I’ve listed my first for-sale pattern on Ravelry, launching the Hands Occupied pattern shop. The inaugural pattern is for Turtle Mitts, a pair of hand warmers designed to fit close to the skin, but doesn’t lay so high on your hands that they affect dexterity.

Picks of the Week
Even if you can’t make my knit in public meetup this weekend, or another one closer to you, you can still try one of my favorite yarn ideas of the week to fill the void created by missing knit in public day festivities.
Yak Yarn!
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried yarn made with yak fibers before, but I highly recommend it. Yak yarn provides a smooth yarn that’s a nice alternative to wool. – Read on to learn how yak yarn can help support earthquake survivors in Nepal.
Picks of the Week
There were some super fun yarn ideas online this week! I feel like I say that a lot, but do you see that Star Wars mug cozy? The cute little amigurumi octopi?
Review & Giveaway: Knitter’s Pride Karbonz
My most-used knitting needles are for sure interchangeable circulars. There are a few brands I like to use, depending on my mood and the project or fiber I’m working with. One of those go-to brands is Knitter’s Pride. Lightweight and warm to the touch, the Knitter’s Pride Karbonz knitting needles are really easy to work with and virtually unbreakable. I always look forward to casting on projects with these needles.
Outlander Chevron Shawl
Knit in yarn in colors inspired by the Outlander series, this shawl is a modern reimagining of a garter stitch triangle shawl featuring bright, spring colors and a chevron accent.
Organizing Your Yarn Labels
When I finish a knitting project, or even just finish a skein of yarn, I’m often met with a slight dilemma: what to do with my yarn labels. For the longest time, I’d just shove them into the middled of a densely-packed gallon zipper bag, end of story. Then I started designing.
A Few Good Yarns
There’s nothing like happy yarn mail to make your day. Indie yarn shop A Good Yarn Sarasota sent me a few yarns to review recently, and I was so excited when they arrived! I received one hank each of Dream in Color Jilly yarn, Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock and Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport.
Inside the Design Process
Like many pattern designers, my design process begins with knitting (or crocheting) swatches. Since I’m designing this in conjunction with a publisher, my editor and I have been emailing back and forth to decide which motifs are working for us both. A big help in the design process has been my new HP Sprout.
