Exciting News!
I mentioned on my Facebook Page the other day that I had some exciting news. Well, here it is. The husbot and I have known since December that we’d be moving to Chicago soon, but my plans were really unclear until now. Last week, I was offered a job at a public library in the Chicago suburbs as their new marketing/graphics/web guru. It’s the most adorable library with some clearly awesome, passionate, friendly people.
My husband and I have been incredibly fortunate this year with our marriage, his work, my work, friends, and this blog. (I don’t usually get personal here, but crafting and blogging are what have kept me sane this year. I really appreciate everyone who reads this. You have no idea!) In the next few weeks, I’ll be moving and starting the new gig, so I’ll be posting fewer of my own tutorials for a bit.
For now, I’ll return to keeping my cards close to my chest and wish you welcome to crochet week at Hands Occupied! Expect some loopy projects, inspiration and tutorials through Friday. :)

Crocheted Yoga Bag Instructions
Every once in a while, knitters and crocheters find themselves with a ton of leftover yarn in their stash. Not enough to make a hat, all different sizes and fibers, clashing colors, etc. I recently found myself in that position, but it killed me to think of throwing it all away. I knew that if I donated my stash to a thrift store, it would probably all get thrown away too. Then, I read my copy of The Step-by-Step Needlecraft Encyclopedia. In the book’s article about granny squares, the author explained that granny squares were used on the frontier as a way to use up every small bit of available yarn as materials were scarce. This project sounded like a good way to clean up my stash.
This yoga bag is basically one extremely long granny square with a very long, thick chain-stitched strap. It’s really easy. You can follow this pattern with any size hook. Since this bag needs to be weight-bearing, weaker yarns should be doubled-up to avoid stretching.
I recommend this pattern from Pickles.no if you want to make it for yourself.
