How-to: Halloween Party Jars

Thank goodness it’s finally October, the beginning of the fall/winter crafting season! I’m so pumped! To kick off a month of Halloween and other autumnal crafts, I’m sharing how to make some cute party drink jars with a little Mod Podge. These are perfect for cider, fruit punch, orange soda floats, jello, you name it!

Supplies

mat antique finish Mod Podge

sparkle Mod Podge

sponge brush

several clean mason jars

tissue paper

x-acto knife

tweezers (optional)

cardboard

pencil

straight pins

Directions

Draw or trace a few bone shapes onto some tissue paper and cut them out with an x-acto knife, using straight pins to keep the paper in place and cardboard to protect your work surface.

Spread a layer of Mat Antique Mod Podge onto an area of your jar slightly larger than your tissue paper design. The Mat Antique Mod Podge yellows the tissue paper a bit, which is perfect for halloween. Tip: Use your mason jar lid to keep your brush from messing up your table.

Place your design onto the Mod Podged area of your jar. If your design is complicated and involves a lot of tiny pieces, you can use tweezers to help get everything placed just right.

Rinse the Mat Antique Mod Podge from your brush and dry it off. Carefully paint a layer of the Sparkle Mod Podge over the tissue paper. Then paint a layer of it all over the outside of the jar, avoiding the threaded top of the jar (because you don’t want your guests ingesting Mod Podge, right?) and the bottom of the jar (because you don’t want to glue your project to your table). Add a couple more layers of the sparkly stuff, allowing each layer to dry 15-20 minutes between applications, for a sparklier jar.

An easy drink to fill these with is a Halloween take on dyed beer by stirring a few drops of food coloring into some cheap beer, right in the jar. The great thing about making these out of jars is that you can use your jar lids to seal these up in the fridge before a Halloween party to keep the beer fresh. Happy Halloween!
