I’ve been making a lot of hats lately, and they are really hard to store, move and/or display. My wedding fascinator lived in a tupperware container for awhile, my Louise hat was shoved in a drawer, and my latest, a paper hat, almost got destroyed when it fell of the shelf I had it resting on. Styrofoam heads freak me out and can be expensive, but I found an uncreepy and economical solution to my problem.
Big box craft stores (like JoAnn, Michael’s & Hobby Lobby) almost all have a floral section. You can find styrofoam objects in a variety of shapes for floral arranging. I went for spheres in a couple different sizes. Then, I asked a sales clerk if they had dowels or popsicle sticks. I found dowels for cake-making that looked like they would work. Just shove 3 or 4 of these in to your styrofoam object, and voia! Hat stand.
My husband bought me an awesome handmade gift at Wolfbait & B-girls in Chicago this week, but it didn’t come with a hanger. I thought an easy way to add a hanger to the back would be with hot glue and ribbon.
