As a quick little extension of yesterday’s felt Swedish hearts tutorial, I made a purse for me to wear today for Valentine’s Day. It’s an easy sewing project tacked onto the basic Swedish heart concept.
Supplies
1/4 yd. red felt (you can use two colors, but I like the texture element of using just one color)
scissors
straight pins
sewing machine
60″ grosgrain ribbon, 1/2″ wide
Directions
Make yourself a large Swedish heart with your felt, using the tutorial I shared yesterday. You can also take a gander at this animation of how the weaving works:
When your heart is ready, turn it wrong side out and fold it as shown.
Â
Pin your ribbon to every other woven piece and sew one side. Flip the heart over and repeat the process on the strips you didn’t sew ribbon to on the other side. Sew the ends of the ribbon together at the corner of the heart.
Sew the ribbon to the edges of the heart, just above where the woven section ends.
Here’s what the purse will look like inside out:
All that’s left is to turn your bag inside out, and you’ve got a cute purse or Valentine delivery bag that Cupid would love!
