Great news! If you’ve finished knitting the body of your sweater, you’ve done the biggest chunk of knitting required for the whole Remy Pullover knit along! That’s one of the reasons I love bottom up sweaters – you get the biggest part of it out of the way first. :) Today is officially day 2, which makes it sleeve knitting time.

Picks of the Week & A Giveaway Winner!
I think the internet’s initial pulse of “OMG IT’S FALL!” knitwear has passed, and we’re now onto, “oh hey, Halloween, chill sweaters, let’s improve our knitting skillz.” It’s now the confident part of knitting and crochet season where people start to stretch and work on the project that’s been brewing in their head all of late summer and early fall. (That’s not just me projecting how my knitting season is going, I think? I hope? Let me know if you think I’m bananas with this line of thought.) We’re seeing some super cute Halloween & fall stuff, and some really cool knitwear designs have shown up lately that I’m all about. I mean, do you see the shawl and cape in this post? So good.
Picks of the Week
It’s knit along season, and I’m digging it. Since the Hands Occupied knit along launched this week. I’m so busy hosting I don’t have enough time to follow along with other great KALs happening around the web, which is a shame since everyone is doing fun patterns for their fall knit and crochet alongs this year. I’ll have to do a roundup of my favorites for you guys next time I’m not spending all of my time knitting, writing and photographing this blog’s KAL. For now, check out my top picks of the week.
Do the math, get the fit / Fall Knit Along Day 1
It’s here! The fall knit along (KAL) featuring the Remy Pullover casts on… today! For this sweater, you’ll need to be able to knit in the round, purl, knit decreases, cast on and cast off.
Vogue Knitting Live & A Giveaway!
Vogue Knitting Live is a huge knitting and crochet conference that happens in several cities throughout the United States, and later this month, it’s coming to my town, Chicago! What goes down at VKL? There is a big, booth-style marketplace where you can get your hands on some amazing yarn and knitting supplies. You can take skill-building workshops and hear lectures on knitting trends, designing better patterns, and more.
Picks of the Week
Slowly dropping temperatures mixing with randomly hot days are perfect for layering headbands and cowls. This week’s picks are full of patterns and tutorials for how to make some new layerable items for your fall wardrobe! The best part of patterns like these are that they work up in a sitting or two – why not cast on one of these and finish it this weekend?
The Long Tail Tubular Cast On
In this year’s reader survey, you might remember I had a lot of questions about your thoughts on knitting and crochet video tutorials. An overwhelming number of you (77%) said you’d love to see them, so I’m happy to say I’ve got TWO videos to launch the renewed Hands Occupied YouTube channel. The videos show you how to make a long tail tubular cast on for a knitting project. The first video in this post shows how to do it right handed, and the second video shows the leftie version.
Picks of the Week
There were some really fun and inspiring ideas on the knit and crochet blogs this week (I know, I always say that, but it’s true!). In particular some DIY rainbow stitch markers and rainbow shoelaces were big standouts for me! I love the idea of crocheting shoe laces, and the ones I’m sharing today are a DIY designed to help fight homophobia in soccer – how great is that?! And, hello, any stitch marker DIY will have my attention.
Picks of the Week
Knitting season continues to impress this fall! The knitting and crochet blogs have turned out another great week’s worth of sweaters, accessories, home décor, and blankets. All of which remind me of the total lack of holiday knitting I’ve yet to start this year. Better get on that!
